This mini excavator payment calculator estimates the monthly payment and total cost, including the down payment, from four inputs: price, down payment, interest rate and term. Canyonwick Finance, a small-business funding broker in New Braunfels, TX, provides it for contractors. Results are illustrations; lending partners set actual rates and terms.
The four inputs
- Price: the quoted price of the excavator, plus any attachments or trailer you plan to finance with it.
- Down payment: cash or trade-in value you will put in.
- Interest rate: the annual figure from a lender's quote, or a what-if number of your own.
- Term: the length of the deal, counted in monthly payments.
The calculator finances the price minus the down payment and shows two results: the monthly payment, and the total cost, which adds the down payment to all monthly payments.
A method check
Purely to check the arithmetic, take a hypothetical $50,000 machine with $5,000 down, a 0 percent rate and 60 months. The amount financed is $45,000, so the payment is $750 a month and the total cost is $50,000. These numbers are not an offer or a typical rate; any real rate adds interest on top.
What to work out by hand
- Sales tax, delivery and setup. Add them to the price first if they will be rolled into the financing.
- Fees at signing. Documentation or origination fees are not included; add them to the total cost yourself.
- A balloon or purchase option. An offer that finishes with a lump sum needs that sum added to the total cost.
- Leasing rather than borrowing. Multiply the lease payment by the number of payments and add any purchase price at the end, then compare that total with a loan's total cost.
The calculator assumes equal monthly payments, so offers with seasonal skips or weekly payments will not match it exactly.
How to finance a mini excavator
Most contractors use an equipment loan, a lease or an equipment finance agreement, with the machine as collateral. Partners look at the quote, the machine's age and hours if used, and the business's bank statements and returns. How long you can finance a mini excavator is set by the partner; terms on new machines usually run longer than on older used ones, because the collateral has more life left. Equipment financing compares the three structures.
Comal County had 689 construction employer establishments in 2023, including 406 specialty trade contractors, and 61.2 percent of construction employers had fewer than five employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). For a small crew, one compact machine can be the largest purchase of the year, so check the payment against the work it will do. Contractor financing covers the rest of the cash picture, and the resources page has other guides.
Illustrative arithmetic only. Only a lending partner can quote a real rate or term for the excavator.
